The data comes from GBIF, an international network that aggregates biodiversity data from sources worldwide including eBird, iNaturalist, and museum collections.
"Raptor" means a bird of prey — a hunter with sharp talons and a hooked beak. They sort into three broad groups (below). Every search gives you a plain-language summary of what's around, ranks each species by how commonly it's reported so you know what you're actually likely to see, and — when you open a species — shows its wingspan against familiar birds, beginner tips for telling it apart, and which months people report it near your location.
